Hey there, everyone! Welcome back to my blog, where I share the joys and challenges of life as a single dad to my amazing 5-year-old son, Tanner. This past week was packed with memorable moments, and I’m excited to give you a glimpse into our daily adventures. Make sure to watch the full video embedded at the top of this page or click here to see our week in action. Let’s dive in!
Monday: Games and Giggles
We started our week with some fun and games. Tanner and I love playing different card games, and this time, it was all about matching pictures and reacting to them. Tanner’s excitement was contagious as he matched the cards and made the funniest faces. It was a great way to bond and start our week on a high note.
Tanner had a blast looking at his picture cards and figuring out which ones matched the descriptions. His laughter filled the room, especially when he saw the picture of a bee or a volcano. These simple moments of play are what I cherish the most.
Thursday: Counseling and Mediation
Thursday was a bit more intense. I had a counseling session in the morning, followed by a mediation session with Rebecca. It was the first time we’ve talked since the divorce, and to be honest, I was pretty anxious about it. Surprisingly, the session went well. We made some progress, especially around the 50/50 custody arrangement for Tanner. It was a big step forward.
After the mediation, I picked up Tanner and we headed home. Despite the chilly weather, we decided to warm up in the hot tub. Tanner was all for it, even though he was freezing just a moment before. It’s moments like these that make all the stress worth it.
Snowy Adventures and Homemade Pizzas
Later in the week, we faced some winter weather. It was snowing pretty heavily, which meant it was time to break out the snowblower. Tanner stayed with a neighbor, a retired teacher, while I cleared the driveways. By the time I finished, the sun had come out, making everything look magical with the fresh snow.
We made the most of the snow day by getting into the hot tub. The contrast of the hot water and the snowy landscape was breathtaking. Tanner and I soaked in the warmth while enjoying the beautiful winter scenery. It’s one of those perfect father-son moments that I’ll always remember.
In the evening, we decided to make homemade pizzas. Tanner was so excited to help out in the kitchen. He carefully placed tomatoes and olives on his pizza, and it turned out great! We had so much fun making and eating our creations together.
Weekend: Church, Family, and More Snow
The weekend was all about family time. We started with our usual Sunday routine of going to church. Afterward, we headed to my parents’ house for Sunday dinner. Tanner loves spending time with his grandparents, and since it was a long weekend, he got to stay an extra night.
Despite the cold and snowy weather, we made the most of our time. We enjoyed another session in the hot tub, and Tanner was thrilled to finally have his swimming trunks instead of going in his underwear. The simple joy on his face was priceless.
Challenges and Reflections
Being a single dad comes with its own set of challenges. From managing work and counseling sessions to ensuring Tanner has a fun and enriching environment, it’s a constant juggling act. This week, the mediation session was a significant milestone. It’s not easy, but the goal is always to do what’s best for Tanner.
Having quality time with Tanner, whether it’s playing games, making pizzas, or simply soaking in the hot tub, makes all the struggles worthwhile. These moments remind me why I work so hard and strive to provide the best life for him.
Looking Ahead
As we move forward, I’m hopeful about the future. The progress made during the mediation gives me confidence that we’ll reach a fair arrangement that benefits Tanner the most. I’m excited about the possibility of having him for a week at a time, which will allow for even more bonding and adventures.
