Hey, what’s going on guys? It’s Derek, and today I’ve got a pretty special day to share with you. First off, it’s Monday, April 8, 2024, and if you’ve been paying attention, you know today is the big day—a total solar eclipse! 🌞🌑 I’ve been looking forward to it, and let me tell you, it was worth the hype. We’ll dive into that in a second, but stick around because we also had some awesome family moments, including some surprise gifts, a cool game of Sorry with Tanner, and a little creativity with a cardboard spaceship.

Experiencing the Solar Eclipse
You guys know I love experiencing cool, rare events, and this solar eclipse did not disappoint. As it started, you could really feel the temperature drop—it was almost like the world was giving us a hint that something magical was about to happen. And then, bam! The sky went dark, and we were right in the middle of it. It was one of those moments that makes you stop and appreciate the beauty of nature.
I captured some of it on camera, but honestly, you need to check out the video to get the full experience—it’s not every day you get to witness something like this. Plus, we had some fun reactions that’ll definitely give you a good laugh.
Unboxing Gifts from Grandma Birdie
After the eclipse excitement, we had some fun unboxing gifts from Grandma Birdie. She sent Tanner some awesome PJ Masks toys, and man, you should’ve seen his face light up! It’s moments like these that make parenting so rewarding.
Speaking of surprises, Tanner even had a gift for me! We had a whole back-and-forth trying to open it, and let’s just say I was a bit more “careful” than necessary. But hey, it was worth it in the end!
Building a Cardboard Spaceship
Now, here’s where things get creative. Tanner and I decided to take some of that leftover cardboard and turn it into a spaceship! He was so excited, and I gotta say, we really got into it. We printed some custom stickers to make it look extra cool (shoutout to the graphics tools I use for work!) and got the whole thing decked out. Tanner loved it, and we had a blast playing with our new creation. It’s not every day you get to build a spaceship in your living room, right?
Family Time: Playing Sorry and Lunchtime Fun
During lunch, Tanner and I squeezed in a quick game of Sorry, which is always a hit in our house. I won’t spoil how it turned out, but let’s just say there were some intense moments, and Tanner might’ve gotten me a few times! Afterward, we chowed down on some spaghetti, and if you know me, you know how much I love pasta. 🍝
Wrapping Up
It was one of those days where everything just clicked—fun moments, cool surprises, and a little creativity sprinkled in. I’m grateful for days like this, where I can spend quality time with Tanner and create memories that’ll last a lifetime.
