I was watching a Ted Talk the other day about a guy that decided to wake up at 4:30 am for 21 consecutive days.Naturally, like what happens after most Ted Talk’s I watch, I decided I had to give this a try!I’m an idiot…What exactly possesses a guy that has always been a night owl to try such a task? A guy who hasn’t woken up earlier than 9 am, most days no earlier than 10 or 11 am, for the last 8 years…Productivity. The issue of being a night owl is I tend to work at night once things wind down instead of when I first wake up in the mornings….*cough* afternoons. However, what happens most of the time is by the end of my day my brain is finished, I’m tired, and I end up getting nothing done besides playing a video game or watching some TV.So my thought was if I could wake up at 4:30 am everyday I could complete certain tasks, like write this blog post, exercise, etc. before I needed to start my day with things that pulled me out of the house.Welcome to Day One…So how’d it go?Admittedly, I woke up a bit late. Instead of being up at 4:30 am, it was closer to 5 am before I finally crawled out of bed. I may have hit the snooze button once or twice while cussing under my breath that this was the dumbest life hack I had ever decided on trying. After finally forcing myself up, things started coming together as I was hoping. I had a cup of coffee then proceeded to do my daily yoga and meditation. After that I jumped in the shower and got dressed. After getting dressed I made myself a breakfast smoothie (consisting of water, spinach, a banana, some strawberries, a spoonful of peanut butter and some hemp seeds YUM!) and then sat down and started writing this post. I’ve completed all this and it’s currently 7 am in the morning. This still gives me plenty of time to get stuff done before lunch which is when my day normally consists of having to start to run around and not being able to then do any of these things till later in the evening.Overall, I’m pretty satisfied with how the first morning of my 21 early days challenge has gone and I’m excited to keep it going.I won’t be posting an update every day over the course of the 21 days, however, you should expect to see one or two more updates along the way and a post wrapping up the entire process at the end of the 21 days with my final thoughts and whether it has actually helped at all.Until then, Namaste!
